Mr Wimpy, Salthill

With a name that seems designed to make two different corporate lawyers raise their eyebrows, the new Mr Wimpy ice-cream and sweets shop opened in early August 2026.

They're in the Galway Atlantaquaria building on Salthill Promenade, in half of the space previously occupied by the Lighthouse Giftshop, right next to Ground & Co cafe.  This has been given a pastel-pink paint job, and fitted with lots of shelving for sweets including a giant M&M display which has only the slightest resemblance to the original Mr Wimpy.

Products are simple: Soft-serve and Carte d'Or is a premium ice-creams, slushies, sold-by-weight loose sweeties, and a small range of packed sweet-treats.

With absolutely no social media presence initially, there are no contact details

There are no posted opening hours either - but it's likely to be seven days a week for the rest of the summer season, at least.

More like a static Mr Whippy than a burger-selling Wimpy restaurant - Mr Wimpy has a pink and white striped storefront with a giant plastic ice-cream cone outside

The rest of the former Lighthouse Gift Shop is now used by the National Aquarium as office-space
