Full Duck, Renmore

Opened in late 2015 in Renmore, just down the road from the entrance to the Bon Secours hospital, the Full Duck is a very handy addition to Renmore's retail options.

The seating areas isn't huge, even with the building having a rear extension to house the kitchen, but on a fine day there's outdoor seating - and local parks not too many minutes walk away either.

Open 7:30 - 6 every day.

Interesting menus - the day I visited, the veggie option was a grilled aubergine bagel, which was very tasty indeed.    The cake selection included a lime crumble, which had a bit of a coco-nutty flavour going (not my favourite flavour / texture, but not bad either.

And on a return visit in 2023, grilled turkey sandwich with apricot salsa on towsted rye:

Coffee Heaven, Briarhill

Update: Coffee Heaven closed in mid December 2018.

With floor to ceiling widows, this east-side cafe must have the best-lit premises in Galway. It's a fantastic place to be on a sunny day, and has some out door seating too.

Originally the business included a wine retailing area, and coffee-machine sales. Over time, though, it has adapted to changing demands from workers in the area and focussed on the cafe aspects.

Open six days, with breakfast served until 12 noon.  Nice coffee, stylish food and a pleasant atmosphere.

Plenty of seating, including some comfy sofas. Very popular with workers from the estate, and the surrounding are too, with ample parking at the door.

The Galway West Retail Centre doesn't have a cafe, but the local chemist has made enterprising use of the  upstairs area, including a small cafe, photo printing business along with a beauty/nail salon.    And thought it's upstairs, there's an elevator to deal with buggies, wheelchairs etc.



Modern decor, with lots of pink squarely aimed at the beauty salon customers.   Small menu, with coffee that does the trick and a range of sweet treats.    Not a place to go for lunch, but just fine if you need a pick me up between the supermarket and the hardware store, or while waiting for an appointment with the beautician.

Mocha Beans Salthill Promenade and Maude's Icecreams

Update: as at mid-2014, this is still a cafe, but no longer part of the Mocha Beans chain. It is now known as The Creamery.

This lovely light-filled location is home to a branch of Galway's Mocha Beans chain.

The food and coffee is everything we expect from Mocha - always changing, but high quality. The cheery orange look of Maude's icecreams adds to the general verve of the place, and it's a lovely spot to sip a coffee on a cold-yet-sunny winter day.
