The Lighthouse / Jemi Lighthouse

Opening in a hurried fashion in 2012 (the first menu was nothing more than coffee and scones) and looking like it would struggle to survive beyond the summer, The Light House has been one of the delightful surprises of Galway's cafe world.

They grew to offer a lovely range of vegetarian cakes, and over time expanded the menu and opened a sister-cafe in Terryland.

The cafes faces the challenges of Covid, and celebrated their 10th birthday in 2022.  Then in February 2024, they took a break for "a few weeks", eventually re-opening as Jemi Lighthouse at the end of March, just in time for Easter.   The re-opening menu is smaller and carefully chosen with flavoursome savoury breakfast and lunch dishes.

2021 reopening after Covid

Original colour scheme

Vegetarian, alternative in outlook - but with delicious cafes and a a quirky approach to design, it offers a range of lunch dishes (spinach and chick-pea curry with pumpkin on a recent visit) - as well as a great view of the world walking by, and a menu featuring art from the gallery next door.
