This family-run French restaurant is a Galway institution: Pre-Covid, they had a small seasonal menu (usually 2 or 3 dishes per course), and often a queue to get a booking.
After closing in March 2020, they put a lot of time, thought and effort into using the premises in new ways. The resulting café/boulangerie/restaurant eventually opened in May 2021, and offers a great range of pastries, quiches, salads and sandwiches, as well as meal-in-a-jar dinner options for takeaway.
For now, there's an extended family of bears seated in the restaurant area - and on sunny days one lucky member even gets to sit outside. Hopefully they will soon be replaced by Galway residents and visitors.

Opened in 2011, after many months anticipation, Rouge is run by the people behind the ever-popular Java.
More casual French restaurant than cafe, with a simple, effective menu: mains options include one steak, one fish and one vegetarian option each day.. There is a fantastic wine list - spot the giant wine-bottle in the window. The fit-out includes leather couches and a grand piano. Possibly ok for a a casual daytime coffee, but don't expect a seat at dinnertime without a reservation. Food is served until mid-night, seven days.
