This specialist pork butcher in Lombard Street was a family-owned business, with family connections to similarly named butchers in various towns in Ireland. Originally opened in 1940, and at one stage known as Fred Herterich and Sons, they were famous for the quality of their meat and for the piggy-mural on the shop-front.
There have been no public announcements, but in late April / early May 2026, a sign went up on the door "we are closed until further notice"
They have had a couple of previous closures like this, in 2023 for some renovations, and again in early 2024 at the behest of the HSE while some "issues" were cleaned up.
But the word around town is that the master butcher has worked his 40 years and retired, and the shop is closed for good.
