This
Galway city coffee shop
opened on 7 December 2025.
It's located on University Road, opposite the southern campus entrance in the former Ward's Corner Store / Sandwich shop - and is the closest cafe to Galway Cathedral.
They've totally modernised the interior, and now have outdoor seating "by the canal" ie outside the shop, for 50 people - which will be nice once the weather improves. There's also some seating inside for those special Galway days! Outside the branding is subtle, and the paint job a tasteful light grey - but they have kept the famous clock, which may have even inspired the cafe name.

With not a sandwich in sight, Here for Now is aiming to be one of Galway’s
go-to coffee destinations, offering "crafted coffee by the canal" in a
casual, relaxed atmosphere.
Initial products include top-class specialty coffee (ours was really lovely) and pastries, and they
hope to be offering smoothies, and açaí bowls. Coffees include all
the expected varieties. Matcha comes in hot or cold, and can be served
with cold foam flavoured with ube (nutty flavoured purple yam from the
Philippines), vanilla, strawberry or mango - which makes for some very
colourful beverages.
