Ace of Spades Barbershop

This new barbershop officially opened on Wednesday 27 May 2026.

It's located in Briarhill Business Park, in the same block as Nor Dan doors (who've just painted their surrounds a stylish black) and the long-standing Grindhouse Cafe.  This area is usually associated with large-scale retail, but this is changing with tenants in the estate now including Ballbreakers, the GSPCA charity shop and cattery, Lagoinha church, SALT wellness spa, 3 Dental, several gyms / martial-arts studios, as well as various offices at ground-floor level.  So a barber may be a nice addition.

The unit was previously home Symphony Kitchens by Design (who have now moved to Castlebar) - and it had a very full refit to make a large spacious and attractive barbershop, which has great natural lighting.

Owned by experienced Master Barber, Beata Dejneko, previously of Fat Tony's Oranmore, this shop aims to offer  "sharp cuts, a classic shave, and a spot where you can actually kick back. No bells or whistles, just high-quality barbering in a space that feels like home".

Walk-in's are accepted, or you can book on their website.

Kearys Carstore

This Cork-based used-car dealer set up advertising banners in December 2025 - and finally opened in Galway in the 2nd week of April 2026.

They're in Briarhill Business Park (described by some people as being in Ballybrit), on a very high-visibility site on the corner of the Parkmore and Monivea Roads, near the former Lynch Roundabout (sometimes still known as Donnellan's Cross).    There's a bus top right beside them (served by the 401 and 409 Galway city services).   The entrance to Keary's isn't on the main road: It's around the corner beside the back-gate of Western Motors.

This was an empty site for a long time, at times used as a yard for road-works in the area.  It's been levelled and chip-sealed, portacabin offices and banners were installed earlier - providing great advertising.   Now they've added with solar panels to power the lights and signs, put a lots more cars on display, and opened the doors.

Opening hours / days

Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 6pm
Saturday 10am to 5pm

Ballbreakers

This pool and snooker club opened in mid-April 2025.  It appears to be a replacement for HotShots Pool and Snooker Hall in Liosbaun, which closed slightly earlier.

It's in Briarhill Business Park, upstairs above Petworld, in a unit that was most-recently home to J&D Furniture:  the door is unmarked, to the right of Petworld, and near the HSE community stores depot.  Although this is immediately across the dual-carriageway from the Clayton Hotel, you get into the business park from the Parkmore Road.   Ballbreakers is in the block next to Castle Davitt furniture.

Basically this is a social club with pool and snooker.   There's no bar, but there is coffee & tea, and pizza.

Opening Hours

Usually Monday to Sunday, 12-noon to 11pm
But sometimes they open later on fine sunny days.

This Mayo-based Irish family owned furniture store opened the first Galway store on 8 April 2025.

This was previously home to Meubles Furniture.  Since they closed, the showroom has been painted in a range of tasteful colours, and this time all three floors are used as a furniture showroom - no cafe in sight.

Meubles

This Kilkenny- base furniture and homeware company opened a Galway city branch in Briarhill Business Park in 2018.

Originally it included a cafe on the top-floor with views over the east side of the city, but this closed in late 2023.

The main shop closed in late February 2025, with minimum fuss:  the furniture was moved out and a sign on the door said it was closed for renovation, and gave a cell-phone number for enquiries.  Painters were busy inside.   A few days later, the phone number was removed, and so were the external signs.   And the Galway store was removed from the company website.

BathShack

This island-of-Ireland based bathroom wares retailer opened their first Galway City show-room in the 2nd week of November 2024 - complementing their other stores in Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Lisburn, Coleraine and Antrim.

They're in Briarhill Business Park - next door to Meubles furniture, and underneath 3-M Dental, across the dual-carriageway from the Clayton Hotel. You get into the estate, go to to the main-road entrance on the Parkmore Road.   There's plenty of parking at the door, and it takes about 10 minutes to walk from the bus-stop to the showroom.

The spacious unit which has been transformed into BathShack Galway has been used for storage for a long time:  BathShack have spent a good few months fitting it out and building displays which really to show off the range of fittings they have.

Bright-pink is their signature colour, but don't be fooled by the whacky-tacky lurid duck:  their bathroom fittings are stylish and the showroom is large enough to have space to show how things will look in real life, with a range of quality options to suit all bathroom budgets.

The overall product range includes shower trays and doors, electric and power showers, wet room equipment, bathroom suites, free standing baths, whirlpool baths, vanity units and bowls, towel headers, designer bathroom radiators, taps, mirrors, and more.

Days and hours to be advised - very likely to be open seven days a week.

Spice Bazaar

Dublin-based Spice Bazaar Asian supermarket opened their first Galway shop on Wednesday 23 Aug 2023.

The store is in Doughiska, in the previous Foodland premises in a side road just south of Merlin Woods Industrial Estate, in between Copacabana Tanning Studio and the Half Barrel Bar.

They're stocking a very wide range of  Indian, Filipino and African foods, including fresh fruit and vegetables, confectionary, packaged and frozen goods.  Staples come in regular sizes packages for home use, as well as catering sizes.   There's an extremely wide range of spices, also in a variety of useful sizes.   And it's not open yet, but it looks like a butchery or deli-counter is planned for one end of the store.   As well as foods, there are cosmetics and kitchenware.

Open from 10am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday.
