Ace of Spades Barbershop

This new barbershop officially opened on Wednesday 27 May 2026.

It's located in Briarhill Business Park, in the same block as Nor Dan doors (who've just painted their surrounds a stylish black) and the long-standing Grindhouse Cafe.  This area is usually associated with large-scale retail, but this is changing with tenants in the estate now including Ballbreakers, the GSPCA charity shop and cattery, Lagoinha church, SALT wellness spa, 3 Dental, several gyms / martial-arts studios, as well as various offices at ground-floor level.  So a barber may be a nice addition.

The unit was previously home Symphony Kitchens by Design (who have now moved to Castlebar) - and it had a very full refit to make a large spacious and attractive barbershop, which has great natural lighting.

Owned by experienced Master Barber, Beata Dejneko, previously of Fat Tony's Oranmore, this shop aims to offer  "sharp cuts, a classic shave, and a spot where you can actually kick back. No bells or whistles, just high-quality barbering in a space that feels like home".

Walk-in's are accepted, or you can book on their website.

Eren's Barber

This new barbershop opened in the fourth week of April, 20206.

It's located in Upper Abbeygate Street, in between Alter Eva and Asiatic Manila grocery shop - in the unit which was most recently Icon Barbershop.

They've kept the black theme internally, but added mirrors framed with gold lights and imitation-gold plated barber chairs, giving a far warmer and welcoming feel   No external signs as yet, so we don't know if the black will stay there too.

Services include haircuts, beard-trims, hair-washing and hot-towel shaves.   Prices are displayed on a sign at the door, and they have special rates for children and students.

No bookings required, walk-in customers only.

Poblacht Barbershop - The Republic of Hair

After almost eighteen months in their original location, Galway's gender-neutral barbershop, Poblacht made the most confusing move ever, relocating from William St to William St West in early June 2025.

The new home is in the heart of the very chill #WestEnd, in the shop in between Silkes cash-and-carry and The Face hairdressers,  across the street from The Secret Garden - which was previously Aplomb Menswear.

It's had a tasteful refurb including some refreshing lime 💚 green trim inside and out, and a traditional red-and-white  barberpole installed outside.

The service is the same as ever, with the street-level access opening up to more people a the extra space letting the lads display some interesting hoodies and more.

Social and contact details unchanged.

Originally

This new Galway run, family-owned barbershop officially opened on Friday 19 January 2024.

Run by two locals, Cóilín and Evan, the shop replaced the Notorious barbers which opened in the same location during the Covid lockdown.

Located in Williams Street, just a few steps up from Shop Street, they're in a heritage building, located just above the Joke Shop - but they're very serious about lads hairs for fashion and wellbeing.  The entrance via a stairway between Or Jeweller and The Body Shop - and the barber-studio now has a striking grass-green interior, to add a cheery tone.

They offer all the service you'd expect from a barber - and being locally based means they offer haircuts for all, welcome walk-ins, speak some Irish and and are familiar with the ebb and flow of Galway city.

Fat Tony's Barber, Middle Street

Update

The company behind Fat Tony's  (Goomba Ltd) put itself into voluntary liquidation in January 2026 (source: The Irish State gazette, Iris Oifigiúil).

At the time, Middle Street definitely closed.   Liosban is reportedly still open, and being run by barbers who are self-employed and renting chair-space.   Other shops are reported closed.   There have been no social media posts, and no signs in the windows in Middle Street, at least.

By a few weeks later both Middle Street and Liosban re-opened, with not changes of signage.   Reportedly the barbers working there are now all self-employed and renting chairs by the hour from the business-owner.

Middle St on 19-Jan:  lights are out, doors closed.

Originally

This is a personality-filled barber shop in Middle Street, which had / has brother shops in Liosbaun, Barna, Newcastle - and perhaps other areas too.   It has all the trappings of a traditional barber-shop, complete with a red-and-white striped rotating pole, trad-style barber chairs, and wild-west writing on the window.   In recent years, the shop in Liosbaun has expanded into a male-themed cafe and lifestyle clothing store as well.

Best Barber, Eyre Square

Galway's second Best Barber opened in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre in the 3rd week of August 2025.

(In case you're wondering the first "Best Barber" is located in Salthill village, near Davitt's Photos. There's no sign that they're related to the second one - or that either one is any better than the other!)

Theyre located downstairs, in between Specsavers and Penneys, the shop that was previously FunTech - opposite the Virgin Media phone shop-.

It's a small shop with just two chairs, and features a modern red, white and blue barber pole made with neon lights.

They're offering a €5 discount for pensioners and students, and €3 for students.   Not clear if this is permanent, or just an opening offer.

Opening days / hours are to be advised.

No socials yet.

Dinos Barber Wellpark

Dino's Barber Shop opened in Wellpark Retail Centre on 5 December.

Newly decorated with a dark, black-and-dark-brown theme, they're in Unit 11, which was, a long time ago, a small cafe next to Maplin - and is now just across the car-park from Woodies.

They're looking to be a high-class, destination barbers-shop which makes grooming easy and enjoyable for men, offering a confidence boost, not just a haircut.

Sanctuary male grooming

This male grooming salon opened in late July 2023.

They're located at 5 Lombard Street, in between Anthony Ryan's homewares and Hertrich's pork butchers.   The unit was previously an internet cafe, then a computer repair shop and then empty for some time:  it's had a total fit-out, and the whole building has a new flush-fitting shopfront which is working very nicely.

They decor is decidedly manly and laid back:  the chairs are placed so you don't have to look at yourself in the mirror while the work is being done, colours are muted / black - and there's a traditional barbers pole at the back of the salon.

Services include everything you'd expect from a barber:  haircuts and beard trims in a variety of styles, which they're happy to show pictures of.    Appointments are done via Booksy (link below).

Norma opening hours are Monday - Saturday, 10am to 6pm - but they will consider after-hours if you contact them.

Traditional Turkish Barber, Forster Street

This cheerful new barber shop, also known as Traditional Turkish Barbers by Miah, opened in late 2022.

They're in an unit at 41 Forster Street which used to be home to Galway Accommodation Agency, in between the Aran Ferry office, and the Drivery Theory Testing Centre, diagonally opposite to the Coach Station.   The windows have been defrosted, and the decor inside has been worked to make the who place look exciting - including a bright red pedal car in the window to match with the busy street outside.

Open seven days a week, they specialise in trendy haircuts, and services include beard-trimming and hot-towel shaves.  Walk-in customers are welcome.   And if you're in a hurry, just let them know and the highly-trained professional barbers will accommodate.

From early 2023, they're also offering a left-luggage service.  Book this through Radical Storage, or scan the QR code on the window.

Three B's Unisex Hair Salon

Three B's Barbers / Hairdresser opened in Cross Street, just next door to Freshii fresh-food takeaways in the unit which was previously the Galway branch of I Love Carousel vintage fashions.

They originally opened at what was probably the most unfortunate time in history, just as the Covid-19 closedown was coming in to place.   But they have worked with the restrictions and are still open nine months later.

Offering cuts, fades, and styling, the shop is named as a unisex hair salon, but right now at least the focus is on barbering.
