Cadell

This new-but-old Woodquay pub opened on 18 July 2024.

Galway owned and operated, it's located in between Flaherty's Paints and the trad-stylish Tígín bar - in the premises that was home to Caribou.

They've aimed to maintain the spirit of Caribou, making only minimal changes inside and out, and offering board games, craft beers and cocktails with a food-menu coming soon.

Unfortunately the painted caibou next door suffered when someone needed access to the building, but we're hopeful it will be restored to its past glory, or perhaps even taken to new heights.

Corner Express

This 21st century corner store (ie a vape shop) opened in late December 2023.

It's located in Corner House in Woodquay, at the very bottom of Eyre Street - opposite McSwiggans and just around the corner from Bridie Murphy's second cafe, in the premises that used to be Hughes Opticians (before Hughes merged with Kelly Optical in Middle Street earlier in the year).

Products are pretty much what it states on the signs, coffee (maybe not so much of this), candies (sweets), fizzy drinks (ie minerals), vapes and phones (actually phone fixing and accessories - this section is quite small).  No newspapers, bread or milk!

Days and hours are to-be-advised, and they have no social media pages so far.

Address:     37 Woodquay, Galway, H91 FW10

Bridie Murphy's, Eyre Street

Update

June 2024 - open again, and now serving sandwiches too.

April 2024 - Bridie Eyre Street are on a break :

Update - September 2023

Bridie Murphy's Eyre Street is back open again  looking better than ever.

Update

From approx May / June 2023, this shop has been displaying a "closed for now" sign. Fittings are still in place but there's no food on-site.

In early July they were promising to be back, and advertising for staff.

Originally

This locally owned artisan bakery and cafe, which is a sister-shop to Bridie Murphy's Mainguard Street,  opened on Friday 26 Jan 2023.

They're in Eyre Street, near the bottom of the hill on the corner of St Brendan's Avenue - roughly opposite The Hole in the Wall, and just around the corner from Woodquay.

This shop has been extensively renovated, and previously the home of Stitches alterations, who have moved up the hill.   There's no space for ourtoor seating, but a nice seating area at the front of the cafe with wooden furniture which is sympathetic to the building.

Products include the same fabulous breads, scones and cakes made in their local bakery - and some interesting new ones that they now have display apace for.

Tígín

The first new pub in Galway since MP Walsh's, Tigín opened in Galway's historic Woodquay in mid-December 2022, right in time for the Christmas season.

It's one of the smallest bars in the area, most recently known as the Lough Inn and before that for a long time as the Central Bar.   It's in a great location, in between the trendy Caribou and the rather more traditional Joe Greene Menswear - with accessible parking right at the door.

This time around, the exteriot decor is a classy dark-green/grey with lots of gleamingwood inside, and it's under the very experienced management who also run the Cellar bar in Eglinton Street - so shaping up to be a traditional pub well worth a visit.

Hair Parlour

Hair Parlour opened at 15 Eyre Street in Woodquay in mid-August 2021.

They were operating as Koztello's in Knocknacarra Retail Park, co-located with McSharry's pharmacy.

Now, they're in a newly-fitted stand-alone shop which is across the street from Stitches, between the the Hole in the Wall pub and Laptek computer repairs, previously occupied by Brite bikes.   Offering all the services you'd expect from a full-service hair and beauty establishment, in a light, bright environment on the edge of the city-centre.

Monster Donuts

Update, February 2022

Monster posted on Facebook that they would be closing at the end of the month.  And they did, after a busy final week.

Originally

This specialist donut shop opened on the edge of Woodquay in the last week of June 2021.

They're located St Francis Street, opposite the Abbey-church, in the shop on the corner of St Anthony's Place:   cafés in this unit on the last few years include Java John's, and the Galway Roast.

Their logo was used in another donut shop that shared a shop-front with an escape room on Dominick  Street until the Covid-closedown in December 2020.  Its likely that this is an expansion on the previous business, with a more family-friendly name.

The menu includes a selection of well-decorated donuts, and beverages including Blue Moon coffee, smoothies and frappés.
