Asia Central Market

This comprehensive Asian ethnic food-store (which may also have Habib's Barber Lounge upstairs) officially opened on Saturday 8 August 2026.

It's located in the Townparks complex, which is near the Travelodge Hotel on the Tuam Road, and home to the ever-popular Frends restaurant and the the also-recently-opened Phoenix Inks.  Asia Central is right next-door to the Preloved Appliances Trading centre.  The unit was previously Dino's Barber Lounge, and before that PB Gibbons Electrical.  It's got all shelves, and narrow corridors, but is very well organised.

Aiming to be a one-stop shop for authentic Asian groceries, their products include a very wide range of pulses, grains, dried fruits, sauces and spices in sizes ranging from individual household to large-scale catering packs. They also have a fresh-meat halal butcher counter, and smaller ranges of non-alcoholic drinks, sweets, snack-foods and specialist fruits and vegetables.

Opening days and hours

Monday to Sunday, 9am to 9pm

Holland and Barrett, William Street

This established British health-and-wellness store opened a new Galway city store on Wednesday 8 July 2026, replacing their Shop Street store which closed the same day.

They're at the top of William Street - next door to Krispy Kreme donuts (what a contrast!)  This was previously home to Skechers (who moved to Edward Square), but it's been fitted out and looks so much more attractive with large windows looking in to the shop and making the displays more attractive.

Products are unchanged, including vitamins, supplements, health food and skincare and wellness essentials.  However in the new store they've also got  Randox Helath clinic upstairs.

Another local food company has announced plans for the site.  It's clear now that Rooster's has closed for good.

Update - early November 2024

Rooster's has stopped opening again.   No announcement or explanation this year, just a Closed sign on the door, at the very time the Christmas Market brings a lot of people to the area.

Will they be back again next spring?  Your guess is as good as mine!

Rooster's are back open with a simplified menu and more focus on self-service.

Update 23 October 2023 - the cafe is closed for the winter
