Mama Rich, Eyre Square

This new Asian restaurant opened on 3 July 2026.   ]

It's located in Eyre Square, inside the suer-sized Supermacs restaurant and takeaways in the top plaza area, but with a totally separate kitchen and service area, on the right hand side of the existing burgers and pizza counter.   The dining room is integrated though - so you can have high-quality Asian restaurnat food, while your friend have burgers, super-subs of Papa John's pizza.

This outlet complements the original Mana Rich in Woodquay, combining an accessible dining room and a full Asian-restaurant kitchen with at-the-counter ordering  and super-quick service.

The menu isn't quite as extensive - and of course there's no alcohol.   But it's pretty impressive for a fast-food restaurant. 

Sprout & Co

Irish opened and operated Sprout & Co opened their first Galway city restaurant in June 2026, with the official first day on the 27th  and a few soft openings during the preceeding days.

They're located in Eyre Square, near the top-left corner, in between Lil Bro's pizza and Caffe Nero.  The building was previously home to Permanent TSB bank (before they moved across the road to the old Ulster Bank site).  The ground floor has bee used as a ticket office for Galway Arts Festival a couple of times, and last Halloween it hosted a costume pop-up.   But Sprout have put in the work to restore the exerior, and to fit out the interior as a pleasant, healthy fast-food outlet.

Aiming to serve food that is locally sourced, seasonal and healty, Sprout's menu currently features around bowls (based on rice) and wraps, which are served with a range of flavour combinations and condiments, eg tahini fishbowl, middle Eastern chicken, SuperGreek salad, Tokyo bowl - and many more.

One thing to be aware of:   Sprout stores are all card-payment only.   Cash isn't accepted.

Smash Bird, Cross Street

The Cross Street branch of this bright pink chicken restaurant opened at the end of the last week of November 2025 - to invited guests the first night, and then to the public.

It's located in between Sugar Dolls nail bar and 3B Barbers - in the unit that was home to Crazy Corn.  The decor is all new, and with them opening in Christmas season, the seasonal decorations are in bold shapes on the outside of the building.

Inside, there's a small eat-in dining area, as well as their more familiar takeaway.

The menu is similar, perhaps exactly the same, as Dominick Street:  wings, dawgs, vegan junk - the trimmings like drinks sides.  Initislly there was no menu board outside, but that was fixed pretty quickly.

It's not yet clear if this store will replace Dominick Street, or both will stay open long term.  But for now, both are open.

Subway Salthill

This new Salthill village branch of the Subway sandwich chain opened in the last week of November, 2025.

They're located in the takeaway that was previously Roberta's fish and chips - between da Roberta's  Ristorante & Pizzeria and Davitt Photo Centre, and underneath Osaka Salthill.

The menu is classic Subway Ireland:   sub-sandwiches (called that because they're shaped like submarines!), cookies, soft-drinks, loaded potatoes, salads and sides.

The Hidden, Riverside

This suburban but very authentic pan-Asian restaurant and takeaway opened on Sat 2 December 2023.

They're located at 38 Gleannanail Drive:  this is right inside Riverside housing estate, in the premises that was most recently Scran Riverside cafe, and sometime before that was a neighbourhood / convenience shop and newsagent.

They offer a full eat-in and takeaway menu, with lunch served from 12.30pm  to 3pm, and dinner from 5pm to 10:30pm.

The menu is divided into:

• "Asian bites" (starters), including satay skewers, deep-fried squid, piri-piri prawns, crispy chicken, wontons, gyozas (Japanese dumpling), spring-rolls
• Soups - including Tom Yam, Won ton, Chong Qing Hot Sour, and tofu miso.
• Noodle soups, including Korean kimchi noodles, Japanese ramen, won ton, Tom Yam - and curry Laksa.
• Fried Noodles (pad Thai, Yakisoba, Singapore, udon, Indonesian mee goreng mamak, chow mein and Penang char keuy tow)
• Fried rices (traditional, Nasi goreng, Sambal and Thai pineapple king prawn
• Other wok and curry dishes (satay stir fry, black-bean stir-fry, Kung-po stir-fry, black-pepper stir-fry, Mongolian stir-fry, Honk Kong style sweet and sour, roast cashews stir-fry, Oyster stir-fry, Thai red curry, Thai green curry, Bangkok peanut curry - and regular homemade curry.

Original listing

This small African cafe / restaurant opened on 18 March 2022 - just after the madness of Paddy's Day was over.

They're in a recently-refurbished building, between Mellow Daze and Giovannis, across the road from Tomo's Streetfoods.

The opening-week menu was a mix of light bites (wings, nachos, potatoes), healthy bites (salads), lunch-time burgers (beef, chicken or bean), sandwiches, "grub" (dinner-time dishes:  chicken breast, steak sandwich, fish,  and chips, chicken pasta or cauliflower steak) and a small range of desserts.  There were also specials - to start with Korean BBQ steak sandwich and loaded ice-cream.  Later weeks saw some more adventurous dishes, including gzmklla stew, and South African spiced beef.  And a few weeks later there was another shift to include a range of North African dishes - making this Galway's first African restaurant. 

Initial opening hours are Wednesday - Sunday 1pm - 10:30pm - closed Monday and Tuesday.

Lana Galway city

Lana Thai Asian Street Food opened a restaurant in Galway city-centre in the 2nd weekend of October 2021.

They're located in St Mary Street, in between Amber holistic giftstore, and the Rikshaw Chinese takeaway.   The unit they're in has known by a number of names:  Mediterranean takeaway, Jerusalem - and others that will be added as I remember them.    Lana have done a very thorough renovation, so will hopefully be successful here.

There are clearly separate restaurant and takeaway areas, the former is compact, but well-lit and cheerful.

The menu is extensive, including a range of vegan dishes and a kids-menu.

Harbour Hotel

The Harbour Hotel has been offering accommodation to Cancer Care West while the HSE used the Inis Aoibhinn building.

They are offering Call and Collect hotel kitchen meals, from 29 April.  Menu online.  Orders phone 091 894800.  Available 3-10pm, Monday-Sunday.

Dough Bros

Following the 2020 Covid closedown, Dough Bros Pizza restaurant re-opened for takeaway pre-order and collection only (no walkup orders), from Friday 15 May.  Their at-hone options were incredibly popular, with booking a time slot being done while  phone lines open from 1-8pm Wednesday and Thursday.
